Year-round gear rentals and catering at Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park
ONTONAGON, MICH. — Visitors to Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park will soon see new offerings added to park amenities.
After an extensive search to find a contractor to develop the Upper Peninsula Remote Park’s warm-weather recreation opportunities, the Michigan Department of Natural Resources partnered with Auburn Hills-based outdoor recreation company Simple Adventures. to offer new experiences to visitors.
According to the DNR, a few of these new services include year-round food at the Porcupine Mountains Ski Resort Lodge, shuttle service to select trailheads and the Lake of Clouds Scenic Overlook, guided kayaking and hiking excursions, and single and tandem rentals. kayaks, stand up paddle boards and mountain bikes.
Sea kayaks and stand-up paddleboards will be available for rent starting Memorial Day weekend, said John Pepin, MNR’s deputy public information officer. Holiday weekend visitors will also find an expanded menu at the Porkies Ski Resort, as well as new food items at the park store and gift shop.
Simple Adventures also operates concessions in Interlochen State Park near Traverse City and Fort Custer Recreation Area near Kalamazoo.
