The new 10,000 square foot concrete park will be located in a corner of High School Park on Evans Street and will provide a safe place for children to stay active outdoors. It will have features for beginners and advanced skaters. “There’s going to be a bowl at the end. There’s going to be a little area when you come in on the right side like just a flat area for people to do stuff and stuff,” Johnson said. The goal is to start by the end of August and complete the park by early November.The community has been talking about building a skate park for almost two decades, but the plans have never materialized so far.

“We had a volunteer skate park committee that was pushing this thing, helping it out since 2018. They’ve all played a huge role in getting to where we are now, and being able to put this park in the ground is a to all and sundry. all the work they’ve done,” said Anthony Johnson, assistant manager of South Portland Parks, Recreation & Waterfront.

The new 10,000 square foot concrete park will be located in a corner of High School Park on Evans Street and will provide a safe place for children to stay active outdoors. It will have features for beginners and advanced skaters.

“There will be a bowl at the end. There will be a little area when you get to the right side like a flat area for people to do tricks and so on,” Johnson said.

The goal is to begin construction by the end of August and complete the park by early November.
