Opening of the theater in the park The indoor season opens with THE FULL MONTY

Theater in the Park (TIP) 2021 season continues with INDOOR move to Johnson County Arts and Heritage Center Black Box Theater with nine-time Tony® nominated musical “The Full Monty” Award. The show opens October 1 and continues through October 17 with morning and evening performances. “The Full Monty” is rated R and contains suggestive adult themes, content regarding suicide, adult language and partial nudity.

Based on the cult film of the same name, ten-time Tony Award nominated “The Full Monty,” is filled with honest affection, engaging melodies and the most anticipated closing number of all shows. The original Broadway production began on October 26, 2001 and lasted for 770 performances, and then enjoyed two nationally touring productions.

The story centers on a group of men who were made redundant from their jobs at the town’s steel plant. The women of the city, many of whom are currently supporting their husbands, seek entertainment and they find it on the stage at Tony Giordano’s club. It’s “Girls’ Night Out” and the main draw on stage is Buddy “Keno” Walsh – a stripper who is the personification of male physical perfection and who makes a wad of cash to show it.

The wives’ husbands end up spying on them at the club and are shocked at how much they enjoy watching strippers. Now jealous, out of work, and feeling emasculated, the men find a bold, stripped-down way to make a quick buck. If Buddy can do it … why can’t they? As they prepare, they find themselves extremely exposed; not just physically but emotionally. As they overcome their fears, self-awareness, and prejudices, men find they are stronger as a group, and the strength they find in each other gives them the individual courage to “let go.” publication date “.

“The Full Monty” is directed by TIP veteran Guy Gardner.

“At its core, it’s a self-love musical. Whether you’re successful at anything you do or fail, we all have moments in the mirror that test our worth,” Gardner said. “I hope everyone has a chance to come and see this heartwarming, funny and poignant story as we bring live theater back to day-to-day society after a year and a half of struggle, which we have lived together in through the Covid pandemic. “

The Full Monty is a story full of heart, with a rowdy mix of sharp humor and pizzazz. Including the featured songs “Jeanette’s Showbiz Number”, “You Rule My World”, “Breeze off the River” and “Michael Jordan’s Ball”.

The talented cast includes several TIP veterans as well as artists new to the program.
