Leakey ISD announces temporary shutdown due to ‘ongoing community struggle’ with COVID-19
LEAKEY, Texas – An increase in COVID-19 cases in the community is forcing Leakey ISD to temporarily close its doors, district officials say.
Citing an “ongoing community fight” against the virus, the district announced on Saturday night that it would not have normal educational activities by September 7.
“Due to the ongoing community struggle with COVID-19 and its variants, we no longer have the teaching staff or replacements needed to provide quality education to students at Leakey ISD,” district officials said in a statement. communicated.
Extracurricular activities will be permitted at Leakey ISD, if there are enough staff available to manage them, according to district officials. This also includes practices and competitions.
Although the district has some students under quarantine from COVID-19, officials said there was not yet a widespread outbreak of the virus among the student body.
