Destination Louisiana: Happy Glamping at Bogue Chitto State Park | WNTZ
FRANKLINTON, Louisiana (WGNO) – It doesn’t always feel like fall in Louisiana, but when it starts to get a little cooler why not take a camping trip – a luxury camping trip !
When you’re ready for a nature getaway, Bogue Chitto State Park is ready for you.
“Well, I think it’s a place you can come and get away from it all,” said Clifford Melius, Louisiana State Parks’ assistant secretary. “One of the things we wanted when we designed Bogue Chitto State Park was to look like you were here on your own.”
Achieving that goal comes, well, naturally. With nearly 2,000 acres to explore and over 30 miles of trails for hiking, biking or horseback riding.
Melius has helped make the park user friendly and is responsible for the layout and location of all trails.
“Bogue Chitto State Park was actually my very first project to design an entire state park, so it’s close to my heart,” Melius explained.
WGNO’s Stephanie Oswald spoke to him at one of the 11 glamping sites located in the park. Glamping is the abbreviation for “glamorous camping”.
“We’ve partnered up with TentRR and TentRR has come out and they have over 60 sites across the state park system – several state parks, all over the state – where you can go out and rent that tent with them. Adirondack chairs, fire pits, memory foam mattresses.
The glamping tent comes with all modern conveniences, including a queen-size mattress for a good night’s sleep and interior plumbing.
Hurricane Ida swept through several glamping sites in other Louisiana state parks, but those in Bogue Chitto were spared the storms. To find out more or book your glamping site, click here.
Stay tuned for WGNO’s next Destination Louisiana, when we take you on adventures in the park. The second part of our visit to Bogue Chitto is scheduled for Thursday November 18th.
