Cool things to do this week

At Thursday take the kids to Cedarhurst of Bethalto, 903 N. Moreland Road, 6:30 p.m. for their first Trunk or Treat in Cedarhurst! Bring your ghost, goblins and witches for a spooky evening hosted by the families, staff and residents of Cedarhurst.

It’s the perfect time of year for Owl Fest, a two-day event Saturday and Sunday noon to 5 p.m. at The Nature Institute (TNI), 23956 Green Acres Road, Dow. It’s a fall festival and open house combo. This is the only event where the TNI hospital, flight enclosure and rehabilitation buildings are open to the public. TNI Animal Education Ambassadors will be available to meet and greet. Audiences will get a behind-the-scenes look at the facilities while enjoying educational speakers, local environmental organizations, crafts, food, live music, raffle, vendors, kid-friendly activities and TNI’s famous Teddy Bear Clinic. Accessible parking and shuttle service available. All ages are welcome, free access, open to the public. Visit www.treehousewildlifecenter.com/owl-fest for more information.
