central park summary of season 3, episode 1

The episode begins with a fun little song that highlights everyone mentioning the show’s return. I loved how they got everyone involved because it was like a “hey, welcome everyone.”

After our introduction, Birdie explains how spring is full of changes, including the fact that he breaks down that Mayor Whitebottom had to step down and was replaced by an acting mayor, Mayor Quincy. Owen has been very busy since taking office, but he hasn’t had much time. However, he is trying to attract more high-profile filming to the park.

We move inside, where Owen announces that they have Gina Tracker, the FBI will be shooting at the park today. Paige and the rest of the family are thrilled because it’s their favorite TV show. The Tillmans will be heading to the set, but Birdie lets us know that things won’t go as planned.

The Tillmans walk around the set. At first, the man gives them all the details that Gina Tracker is going to film. Then he introduces the family to a man who is thrilled to meet the family. The guy mentions how big of a fan he is of the family, including Paige’s work at the newspaper. So naturally the kids are overzealous and try to get involved on set.

It’s the raccoon’s lunch (yes, you read that right, ha), and Cole wants to volunteer to have lunch with them, and the guy tells him he can help feed them. Afterwards, Molly wants to enter the makeup trailer, which he tells her she can. Afterwards, he asks Paige what she wants to do, including an exclusive interview with Gina’s sidekick, Nicole. Finally, he gets to Owen and wants him to use him as an extra for the show. Owen’s response is as expected, he is EXCITED.

We cut to Bitsy, who gets her feet rubbed, and while she’s doing it, she lets the park know she’s coming to pick it up and buy it. His assistant Helen asks how it will be without Mayor Whitebottom in his pocket. She explains easy because there is a special election in a few months and will make sure they are in her pocket.

Owen is ready to rock on set, but Nathan (the director we met earlier who loved family) starts directing traffic, spreading trash, needles, and dead bodies all over the park. Owen freaks out a bit because he doesn’t want them messing up the park. He explains how the park has murders. But Owen refutes this, but Nathan tells him that it’s the Gina Tracker show, FBI, and of course there will be that stuff.

While this is happening, Birdie mentions that Helen is having trouble finding someone to support as mayor. Then we see her interviewing candidate after candidate and not having a chance. Finally, Owen approaches Nathan about how the show doesn’t paint the park in a great light. He tries to reassure him that he needs to relax and have a good time with this. Let’s go back to Bitsy, who calls Helen, who is having trouble finding her “puppet”.

And here we are, with our first song in the middle of the episode centering on Hellen trying to find a candidate. One thing that continues to impress me about this show as we enter season three is their ability to write these amazing songs that are HILARIOUS. I love Daveed Diggs as Helen.

On the set of Gina Tracker, FBI, filming begins, which shows the raccoon attacking the trash can while Owen is in the background. At this point, the raccoon has a moment to stop shooting and then we see Owen trying to add his two cents, which Nathan is not a fan of. However, Owen keeps trying to share his input, and Turrent FREAKING OUT.

The end

We see a BIG explosion between Owen and Nathan, and while it’s going on, the Mayor comes onto the set. Owen goes on to explain how the show could be so much better if they did things a little more the way he wants. We see Owen trying to go into detail with a nice little song. The funniest thing about this moment, as Owen sings about how amazing the park is, he’s got a head in his hand the whole time.

The song fell on deaf ears when Nathan said, “Okay, can we start touring again now.” The family offers their support to Owen who he appreciates. Owen knows how much fun they are having on set and tells them to stay. Afterwards, Bitsy is upset because Helen hasn’t found her person yet, but as they watch the news, the Acting Mayor is on TV talking about turning down the Met Gala invite.

At the end of the episode, Helen suggests that the acting mayor is their puppet. Afterwards, the Acting Mayor pursues Owen to talk to him. He was impressed by Owen’s little song and his passion for the park. The back and forth between the two was to my delight Owen. However, Bitsy and Helen look on and see that Owen already has his claws on the acting mayor. However, Bitsy doesn’t care because she’s sure to make her our puppet.
